Graduate School Money
Is there money available for graduate school in education? I don’t want to take anymore student loans. I don’t want to quit my job to complete the degree. However, the only thing that I have run into are loans and fellowships. The fellowships want someone full time and pay with a stipend that would not support me unless I moved to the dorms and got rid of ALL of my amenities. Any suggestions for how to pay for graduate school?

Pray a lot? Beg? Uh, steal? (Nah, scratch that last one.) Seriously, if you find out, let me know…’cause I have no idea.
Wishing you well in your quest!

If you are in a district that qualifies, and if you teach there 5 years, there is a teacher loan forgiveness program.
I had the info but have another year of indenture – um, work – before I qualify. Email me if you want more info.

My friend who’s an ex teacher is going through a PhD program in Education. She’s doing various types of work, some of it for “central office”. Maybe that would be a source of money.

I teach math in an urban district. I completed my 5th year teaching last June, and my loans were just forgiven. If you teach a subject in need of teachers, or if you are in an urban district you can go through the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program.
As an aside… I discovered your blog while I was at a workshop. As I was reading it I was thinking yes, I get it. Great job! I love reading it!

Look up the TEACH grant…
I just applied for my Masters in Math ED. The requirements, need to be a critical need area (ie. Math, Science) and you agree to teach in low income school for a period of time. Good luck!
