Student Products

Remember, I told you a few days ago that I was having my students rewrite children’s songs with our subject matter.  Here are two of the student products.   I figure I can show them b/c they do not have any of the students names AND the student’s faces are shown.  (Let me know if this a violation of their rights and privacy, I’ll take it down right away)

I think these were really cute.   In the first song that was error in the content, but overall I think they did a good job–the error were caused by trying to make the words fit the song. . . but I am proud of all the products.  The second song  got cut off b/c I ran out of disk space.  I am going to have them record it again at a later date.

I was trying to do this video so quickly that I didn’t realize my mispellings and its 2:00 am and I feel like fixing it. . . so don’t blame those on the students, they were my fault.  Let me know what you think.

Wow! Those were really great! I’m impressed with their abilities to integrate content knowledge AND fit it to the tune so well. That takes talent!

Thanks for getting my brain gears spinning. What content can MY students set to music?

Hey, I’ve tagged you. I don’t normally do these kinds of things, but it seems appropriate today.

What a stunning idea! I will definately have to do this in my class. Which class did you do this project with?

I completed this project with my all of my World History classes. However, 6th period’s attention span was not long enough to complete it. They kept saying “I don’t know what to do.” So the next day, I went back to doing what we regularly do and they were fine with that. . . .This class has so many behavior problems and attention problems, I thought that they would have been excited to complete a task like this. I have yet to find what will work for them to keep them on task and learning. In a conversation with another student, this is a problem in their other classes, too. She said that “their just bad kids.” They are distracting in her other classes, too. I don’t want to believe that they are bad or can’t learn. . . I just haven’t figured out what will work.

This project was completed in 1 class period and then the next class was presentation. Each group randomly drew a card with the children’s song on it and then they drew a card with a topic I had taught in Budhhism. So, it was at random that they matched up the song with the topic. I had them write their song on an transparency, so that after they sang it for us once, we would sing with them. It was great.

I’ve never heard of an idea like this, but I think it is wonderfully creative approach to getting some knowledge into the kids’ heads that will stay with them for years just because of the singing practice with it!

I don’t see why this couldn’t be adapted to any subject–I might try it with third-grade science, in studying for our test!
